The ski area is made of two mountains, Whistler and Blackcomb linked by skis at the bottom . And also linked on the top by the Peak2Peak cablecar, one of the most impressive in the world . Whistler and Blackcomb offer an impressive amount of 8171 acres fully linked by 37 lifts, mostly high speed. The tracks are 15% for beginners, 55% for intermediates and 30% for experts covering a vertical drop of 1635 meters ! The general scheme is a reverse cone which means that there are more slopes where the best snow is. Overall the scheme is the same in both mountains: Parks and a children areas in the lower parts, fast intermediate runs through forests in the middle parts and plenty of "Bowls" and steps for experts at the tops. The two mountains are crowned by two glaciers, where you can ski even in summer. Despite being two mountains there are 3 sides as Whistler Mountain is accessible both from Whistler Village but also from the renewed Whistler Creekside. Creekside is the original area where it all started and where the main ski runs of the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Games are located.
The village, built in recent years is a bit " Disney " but easily meets its goal, it is pedestrianized and offers unparalleled shops, bars and restaurants. Actually there are 4 distinct villages. At the foot of both two mountains there is Whistler Village, the true center, crowded but with all the shops and the just at the ski slopes. A 10-minute walk, Village North is quieter and cheaper, has shops but you have to walk (or take ski bus) to reach the lifts. 10 walking minutes in the reserverse direction, the Upper Village is very quiet with almost no shops but it has direct access to Blackcomb Mountain. Creekside is the last and more recently developed with a pedestrian mall, shopping, tranquility and at the foot of the ski slopes of Whistler. Creekside is an ideal choice for families with children.
Après-Ski has no comparison as there are a lof of services and atmosphere. Especially Whistler Village encourages to party in the bars close to the slopes from 2 A.M. on. Later it spreads through the rest of the resort until late at night with many bars, pubs, clubs, etc. For the less energetic there are dozens of restaurants to dine out and many shops where you can spend your dollars. There are all kinds of activities besides skiing and even sightseeing as Vancouer is just two hours away.
