Check-in at your local airport at least 90 minutes before the scheduled departure time of your flight to Barcelona. Upon arrival transfer included to your selected hotel in Barcelona. Spend the rest of the day enjoying the hustle and bustle of the Catalan capital. Overnight in Barcelona.
Day 2: Barcelona.
You will have the full day to visit Barcelona. The city offers an endless range of possibilities. No matter what you have in mind, this city will always surprise you and give you just what you’re looking for. Make the most of your experience. Walk along Las Ramblas or visit some of the most famous markets in the city such as La Boqueria. Do not miss Gaudí's masterpieces such as Sagrada Familia or Güell Park. FC Barcelona´s Camp Nou is the city most visited place, where you can join the “Camp Nou Experience”. Walk along the old harbour from the Columbus Monument to the Barceloneta neighborhood. Traditional pleasure boats such as “Las Golondrinas” depart from there. All in all you will spend 2+1 nights in Barcelona.
Day 3: Barcelona-Vall de BoÍ (286 km).
Early pick up of your rental car to drive to the Pyrenees more secluded valley, Vall de Boí. It is a long but scenic drive of about 3 hours. Once in the valley, amid mighty mountains, you can tour its impressive Romanesque churches. These are UNESCO World Heritage since 2000. Our tour includes entrance ticket to the most important churches in the valley, as well as to the Romanesque Visitor Centre. Night in Vall de Boí.
Day 4: Boí-Val d'Aran-Pallars Sobirà (112 km).
Today you will surround Aigüestortes National Park by car, visiting Val d'Aran, probably the loveliest valley in the Pyrenees. Long-time isolated from the rest of Spain, the valley has a distinct culture and even its own official language, Aranès. Spend the day visiting natural attractions in the valley, its capital Vielha, the mountain hamlets with stone houses and Romanesque churches. Try the hearty high mountain cuisine from the valley and visit Montgarri Monastery before crossing breathtaking Bonaigua Mountain Pass. Almost 2000 m. high, the views are overwhelming (though check winter travel conditions). Once you cross the pass you will be in Pallars Sobirà region, where you will spend the night.
Day 5: Aigüestortes National Park.
Spend the whole day visiting this high mountain national park. Probably with the best mountain landscapes in the Pyrenees. Main highlights are the lakes around “Sant Maurici Lake” and the mountains of “Els Encantats”. You cannot access the park by car, you have to leave them at designated car parks. Then you can decide to use special 4x4 taxis that will drive you up to the lakes. Alternatively you can ramble along excellent hiking paths all around the National Park. The rest of the region is well known because of its beautiful villages, remote churches and charming people. Overnight in Pallars Sobirà region.
Day 6: Pallars Sobirà-Andorra (104 km).
Again a morning scenic drive from Pallars Sobirà to Andorra. The trip takes around 2 hours but we recommend a stop on the way in La Seu d'Urgell. This mountain bishopric town is one of the oldest in the Pyrenees. The bishop is the head of state of Andorra, in a kind of mountain Vatican. The cathedral is a Romanesque masterpiece from XII century. It also has an excellent Diocesan Museum, among the best concerning religious art. The old town is atmospheric and picturesque, especially on market days, and a great place to have lunch. After the visit cross the border and spend the night in Andorra.
Day 7-8: Andorra.
An independent state with an area of 468 km2 and more than a thousand years of history in the southeast of Europe, between Spain and France. Known internationally for its ski resorts, shops with very low taxes and its modern hotel and service infrastructures, each year the country receives nearly 8 million visitors. Andorra is also a paradise for nature lovers: 90% of the country is forest. You will have 2 full days to enjoy this country with wonderful landscapes specially the cultural landscape of Madriu-Perafita-Claror Valley, World Heritage by UNESCO. It offers a microcosmic perspective of the way people have harvested the resources of the high Pyrenees over millennia. Its dramatic glacial landscapes of craggy cliffs and glaciers, with high open pastures and steep wooded valleys, covers an area of 4,247 ha, 9% of the total area of the principality. You can also follow cultural routes focusing on Romanesque or visit excellent ethnographic museums. Last but not least, this is a tax-free country so you will shop until drop. Overnights in Andorra.
Day 9: Andorra-Montserrat-Barcelona (200 km).
Early departure by rental car destination Barcelona. We recommend a great stop in central Catalonia, to discover Montserrat Monastery, one of the most impressive places in the Iberian Peninsula. The monastery is located in a breathtaking place up in the mountains, surrounded by rocks with amazing shapes. You can access the monastery by car, but we recommend cog-wheel train or cable-car. Inside the monastery you can visit an excellent art museum, an exhibition of the monastery, chapels only accessible by funicular, listen a prestigious boys choir, etc. And all around you will enjoy magnificent views. Montserrat is not only a mountain or a monastery, it has also a symbolical meaning for Catalans. We can say that this is the place where the soul of Catalonia resides. Overnight in Barcelona.
Day 10: Flight back home.
