Catalonia tastes great: unbeatable wines and vinegars

Featuring 12 Designations of Origin (DO) scattered throughout the territory, Catalonia is definitively a Wine Country. This trip will allow you to discover the most important wine regions as well as to taste their wines: DO Penedès, DO Alella or DO Priorat among others. Besides touring the cellars and their vineyards, you will also uncover very varied landscapes. This is also a cultural trip since you will visit cities like Barcelona, Tarragona or Sitges. Along with the so-called “Wine Cathedrals” designed by Gaudí disciples.

      • Day 1
        Flight to Barcelona.

        Check-in at your local airport at least 90 minutes before the scheduled departure time of your flight to Barcelona. Upon arrival pick-up your rental car and drive to your selected hotel in Barcelona. Spend the rest of the day enjoying the hustle and bustle of the Catalan capital. Overnight in Barcelona.

      • Day 2
        Barcelona & DO Alella.

        This morning you will visit the DO Alella, the smallest of all Catalan DO. Being less than 20 Km. from Barcelona city center, it is considered to be the DO producing wine for Barcelona locals. Once in the “Alta Alella” winery, less than 2 Km. from the Mediterranean sea, you will walk around the vineyards and taste six different wines and “champagnes”. Spend the rest of the day enjoying Barcelona. Overnight in Barcelona.

      • Day 3
        Barcelona–DO Penedès-Tarragona.

        DO Priorat

        Today you will uncover Priorat wine region, where wines from DO Priorat are produced. This area produces very reputed wines and is probably one of the areas that will be more famous in the future. You will visit the winery “Cellers Scala Dei” to know their production process as well as to taste 5 of their wines. You will also love mountain landscapes and quaint authentic villages in Priorat region. Back in Tarragona you cannot miss the site of Tarraco, to visit the old roman heritage, specially the spectacular amphitheater. Also you cannot miss the city's cathedral. Overnight in Tarragona.

      • Day 5
        The “Wine Cathedrals”.

        The area around Tarragona is famous for the modernist cellars built by Cesar Martinell, a disciple of Gaudí. They were built in early XX century and are so impressive that are known as “Wine Cathedrals”. You will visit one of them in Nulles, 20 Km. from Tarragona. The guides will introduce you to the architecture and history of the cellar and, at the end, you will taste two wines with an appetizer. Back in Tarragona you can enjoy the Mediterranean atmosphere visiting the “Serrallo” a typical fishermen neighborhood. The city is also an excellent place to savour Mediterranean cuisine at the harbour restaurants. Night in Tarragona.

      • Day 6
        Vinegar tasting.

        Is it possible to taste vinegars. How does it sound to you? Today you will enjoy an off the beaten track experience. Drive to El Vendrell, 35 Km. from Tarragona, to visit the

        Spend the whole day in Sitges. Sitges has always been a place which has enchanted artists, tourists and visitors from all over the world. For many, the secret lies in its light and almost 300 days of sun that it enjoys every year, which attracted the painters, sculptors and writers who settled here at the end of the 19th century. Nature has indeed been generous to Sitges with its setting in an outstanding location on the Mediterranean coast at the foot of the Garraf Massif. Its cultural heritage is extraordinary, with a lively art scene and its traditions are respected with a modern perspective. Sitges has preserved important features both from mediaeval times and from its history as an old fishing town, enabling visitors to enjoy a notable architectural heritage. Overnight in Sitges.

        Flight back home.

        Free time until the designated time to drop-off your rental car at Barcelona Airport. Driving time from Sitges to Barcelona is around 30 minutes. Check-in and departure of your flight destination your local airport. Arrival and end of our services.
